Director of Development
The Director of Development is responsible for securing financial support from corporate partnerships, individual giving, and foundation grants. This position reports directly to the President and works closely with the Board of Directors to cultivate philanthropic support and engage the community in JA’s vision.
Primary Responsibilities:
Grant Writing and Foundation Relations
• Leads the organization’s grant writing efforts by researching, preparing, and submitting compelling grant proposals.
• Lead the identification and pursuit of new grant opportunities by leveraging donor prospecting tools such as Instrumentl.
• Develop and manage a structured process to vet, apply for, and secure grant funding, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and funding needs.
• Manages reporting requirements and cultivates relationships with funders.
• Responsible for both maintaining existing funder relationships and identifying new grant opportunities.
Corporate and Individual Giving
• Develops and implements strategies to prospect, cultivate and secure corporate sponsorships and individual contributions.
• Collaborate closely with the Programs Team, particularly the VP of Programs & Partnerships, to align corporate partnerships with JA’s mission-driven initiatives.
• Proactively connect corporate partner needs with JA program opportunities, ensuring meaningful engagement that drives impact and strengthens long-term relationships.
• Work closely with the VP of Programs & Partnerships to engage JANFL corporate partners, fostering relationships and identifying opportunities to expand their involvement.
• Sets annual fundraising targets and tracks corporate giving progress.
Donor Engagement and Stewardship
• Builds and maintains strong relationships with new and existing donors through personalized outreach, impact reporting, and recognition efforts.
• Maintains accurate donor records, tracks fundraising progress, and provides regular reports on development activities.
• Serves as a visible advocate for JA, representing the organization at key community events and networking opportunities.
Board and Stakeholder Engagement
• Partners with the Board of Directors to leverage their networks for fundraising and donor stewardship opportunities.
• Supports board members with fundraising training and tools.
• Engages board members in donor stewardship or solicitation meetings.
• Develops strategies to increase board participation in fundraising initiatives.
Qualifications (required)
REQUIRED
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• At least five (5) years of fundraising experience
• Proven experience in grant writing and nonprofit fundraising, with a track record of securing funding from foundations and corporations.
• Excellent verbal, written, and storytelling skills, with the ability to craft compelling proposals and impact reports.
• Effective interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with a diverse range of donors and stakeholders.
• Energetic, motivated, and coachable, with a willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively while managing multiple priorities.
• Passion for Junior Achievement’s mission and a strong desire to make a meaningful impact.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
PREFERRED
• Bachelor’s degree in business administration, nonprofit management, or public administration
• Advanced skills and knowledge of non-profit software.
• Non-profit, education and/or youth development experience.
